WANGARI AND THE TREES OF PEACE

Este es el texto del cuento adaptado, con el que hemos trabajado el presente simple:

 WANGARI’S TREES OF PEACE

 Wangari lives under an umbrella of green trees in the shadow of Mount Kenya, in Africa.
 She watches the birds and she and her mother collect/ look for firewood for cooking.
 And she helps harvest the sweet potatoes, sugarcane and maize from the rich soil.
Wangari shines in school and when she grows tall, like the trees in the forest, she wins a scholarship to study in America.
Six years later, Wangari goes back home and she sees a change: - What happened? Where are the trees? – she asks.
Now, the women have to look for firewood miles far away from home.
Thousands of trees have been cut down to make room for buildings.
Wangari has an idea: Let’s plant some trees in my backyard!
Can you help me, please? Ask Wangari to the women.
Wangari pays them ( the women) for each living tree after three months,
But the people go on cutting down the trees.
Wangari tries to protect some old trees, and for this reason she goes to jail.
But she is not alone; Women keep on planting trees. More than 30 millions!
The umbrella of green in Kenya returns.
Now women can collect/look for firewood near home and the soil is rich again.

De todos modos también os facilito algo de información aquí: Esta canción es una nana que cantan en el Congo RD, y este idioma o lengua es LINGALA, que se habla en la región de Kinshasa. Su significado es el siguiente:

¡Olelé! ¡olelé! Moliba makasi (bis) (la corriente está muy fuerte)
¡ Luka, luka ! (¡Remad! ¡Remad!)
Mboka na yé (bis) (Su país)
Mboka mboka Kasai. (Su país, es el Kasai)
¡Eeo, ee eeo, Benguela aya! (que venga Benguela!)
Oya oya (¡Ven! ¡Ven!)
Yakara a (El valiente)
Oya oya (¡Ven! ¡Ven!)
Konguidja a (El generoso)
Oya oya (¡Ven! ¡Ven!)

Esta nana está inspirada en los marineros que se enfrentan a la fuerte corriente del río Olelé y cantan para darse ánimo para remar. Ellos vienen de muy lejos, del Kasai e invocan también al héroe Benguela, para que les ayude. Esta canción significa que, aunque los tiempos sean difíciles, remando juntos remontaremos las dificultades.
